The New Song
I have changed the song i am going to use and i have now decided to create a music video for the song 'EASY'
(It is a Kakuzi song, available to download on iTunes and also to listen to on myspace.)
Song Lyrics
Go easy on yourself
All the world lined up on front of you, on a windowshelf
But your toys keep falling down and down and down
You line the men up against the wall, just so you can tell yourself
This is nothing to do with me, i know it's nothing to do with me
Just played by the world to see, it really doesn't matter to me
Walk to the sound of the marching band
They said your feet move forward but you don't get around
You keep falling down and down and down
You make it easy on yourself, this is nothing to do with me
I know it's nothing to do with me, just played by the world to see
I'll march you out in to the sea
Oh.....
And all the world, they keep calling for your hand
Oh.....
It's going to be a royal blood shed, a blood shed....
Oh.....
That's nothing to do with me
No it's nothing to do with me
It's played the world to see
It really doesn't matter to me

New Idea
My new idea is not entirely different to my previous one. I am still keeping within the same genre, same band, and same style. I am however changing the song i am using, it is still a Kakuzi song, however i am going to make out that it is more a solo artist single release rather than a new band release.
I am doing this because my brother (the lead guitarist) left the band and therefore it is extremely difficult to arrange times we can practise, and perform together. He is also a university student therefore his schedule also causes problems when it comes to my planning.
It is going to be based on Sam Yoneda being a new song writer, and this is his first ever single release. It is a Kakuzi song and therefore i am going to have them as featuring artists in it, which would also help promote them as a new band.
This will be useful when it comes to creating a webpage as this can also include information on them giving the audience a much wider choice on what they wish to know.
I think this may actually work better for my work, as it is a much simpler idea and i believe will fit in to the codes and conventions of this genre a lot better.

Complete restart!
Kakuzi have recently lost their lead guitarist and therefore i am unable to work with them for my A2 media project, therefore i am going to have to come up with another idea. I would like to keep within the rock genre of music videos though.

Billboard Advert
I decided to do a billboard advert for the EP release asi thought it fitted better with the fact i had also chosen to create a EP DVD release for Kakuzi. I used a different image in order to not make it too repetitive and also give the band a look as in the other image you do not see their faces. I adjusted the contrast in the images in order to make their appearance slightly mysterious.
Although i know as a new band it is key to get your audience to recognise you, but i thought in doing this it would attract the audience to research more in to this band and perhaps search them on the internet leading to the findings of their facebook and myspace pages.
I thought as they already have a myspace page, facebook page, and website i thought it was not necessary for me to create my own and therefore i created this Billoard advert to compliment exisiting promotional material for the band.

DVD EP Album release

'Can't Pretend'
This is the front of my CD cover which i designed using one of the photographs i took, of stills from the footage i was going to use in my music video.
I think that by using an image of the character on the front cover it emphasises what the narrative of the music video is going to be. I also like the use of black and white for the image as i think it gives the image a much more interesting look and feel. The colour and font of the writing fits in with this perfectly, however as a first ever single from the band i am not sure it promotes them as much as i would like.
However i think that using an image of the actual band on stage on the back of the CD cover would make it look more like a new single release. I think keeping with the black and white colour scheme and also the same font would make this a really successful first CD cover. I think that writing the song name, band members etc. over the image of the band will make it look really professional and will still promote the band even though it also has an image of the storyline of the actual song on the front.

What i like about this image is the fact it is a still image of one of Kakuzi's live performances. The front of the CD will attract the audience as i find it quite a captivating image. The back will show the audience they are not just a small time band and have had plenty of performance experience meaning they already have a large fan base, attracting buyers as they will want to know why this band are so popular.
I also added the "preview of music video 'can't pretend'" because this is often something that is included in single releases, and this can also be used to promote the band and make their faces known to their audience and within the music industry.
Relating Andrew Goodwin's theory to Bon Jovi's music video 'Always'
Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics:
Bon Jovi is a rock band and therefore their videos contain the characteristics for a rock video. These notoriously contain live performance of the band, which as you can see in this video, the live performance is constantly shown.
Throughout the video there is also a narrative, and in this particular video it is representing the relationship between a couple, which is later destroyed by cheating. Alot of 'soft rock' songs are based on love, and this is why the narrative is usually used in order to amplify the message coming through the song from the lyrics.
There are several close-ups, are again a key characteristic of rock music videos. There are several close-ups of the lead singer, and also the lead guitarist which you can recognise is a characteristic of this genre.
There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals:
The lyrics that are constantly repeated at the beginning of each chorus are 'i, will love you, baby. Always' the lyrics and the visuals clearly have a relationship with eachother, as from the way the video is set out you can see what the lead singer is singing about. This illustrates the lyrics with the storyline running through, of the woman and man in love and in conflict. This amplifies the message through the chorus. However it does not contradict against the lyrics, as you can clearly see that the lyrics and the video work extremely well together.
There is a relationship between music and visuals:
For the rhythm of a music video to flow well it is necessary that the music and the visuals fit well together. When songs have a strong, fast beat throughout the editing is usually quick paced and the shots are of a short length.
However this song doesn't have a fast beat throughout and therefore to fit with the slow, rock ballad feel the shots are generally quite long and the video is slow paced. This illustrates the intense, deep meaning the song is representing. It is also amplifying the intense feel that the actual band are meant to be giving out.
The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close-ups of the artist:
In all of Bon Jovi's music videos there are constant recurring clips of close-ups of the lead singer and also of the instruments used within the band. This and there use of live performance will be recognised as a characteristic of their work as band, which will also be recognised as their particular visual style.
There is frequently reference to the notion of looking:
In this video there is alot of references to the notion of looking, mainly using technical objects to show this. There is a part right at the start where they have the male charatcer in the story taking a photograph of his lover which can refer to this. There are also several references to looking when they use the television and you can see what is happening in the other room through it. This is shown when the room mate type character sees the couple together. It then later is used when the girlfriend sees her lover cheating. This is an obvious reference to voyeurism as wherever the camera is placed, it is looking into the room.
There is often intertextual reference:
This video is not specifially referencing towards any particular music video, or film. However it is referencing to a common theme within many films based on romance, and the idea of a lover being unfaithful with someone who is close to you.

Video Layout
Since hearing the song 'can't pretend' i have had a layout of the music video very clearly in my head.
It was always a definite that i was going to include live footage of the band performing within the video but not necessarily having them in the video the whole way through.
The song is being sung from a males point of view, focusing on the girl that he currently has a relationship with. She is beautiful, wealthy, loved and more or less has everything she could want but somehow manages to hate her life and have a negative effect on everyone elses around her. The idea is that the boy is trying to get through to her, but he is sick of constantly trying to prove himself and trying to show how lucky she is that he can no longer be bothered with her. In the end he realises that although she has beauty, wealth and love she is not the one for him and releases himself from her.
I have a clear layout of what i wish my video to look like.
The main focus will be on the girl's character, she will be dressed smartly making her seem quite wealthy and image-obsessed. Her hair will be slightly distressed looking and her make-up will be done so that it looks quite dramatic. I am thinking that the best location would be a bedroom so that it represents the girl's own world, and how she doesn't let anyone in. I also want the video to go back and forwards from the girl to the band performance.
The impression your meant to get is that the girl is very unhappy and her in her room slowly stripping down everything that makes her perfect is symbolising what she is feeling in her head. However it is looking at her from the boy's point of view and at the end the video will fade to black with the last words "you're not the one, you're only okay"
I took a few sample photographs of what i want the clips of the girl to look like.
I tried them out in black and white and also colour - i also used photoshop to edit the contrast and brightness of the images to see what effect (if any) to use whilst filming.

I may also use these photographs for my CD cover. Although its a new release and is supposed to be promoting the band as new artists i thought one of the images in black and white could be really powerful and have quite a strong impact. I will make two different copies to see which works out best.

Youtube videos
In 2009 they performed at the o2 indigo competing in the surface unsigned festival of 2009. They got through to the final and were runners up in the competition, although this is not footage of my own i thought it would be quite useful to show them performing as i can't always make it to every gig to film it.
I did manage to make it to this event and also managed to take some footage which i will use in my final music video for the band.

MySpace and Facebook
Because the band i have chosen to make a music video for is a real rock group they already had an existing myspace page and facebook group.
Here are both of the links for these webpages (for the facebook one it may be necessary to have to log in on your account before viewing it)
http://www.myspace.com/kakuzi
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kakuzi/13710734525
The myspace page is the most useful web page as it consists of photographs, a live feed telling you the gigs coming up, and also a playlist of recent recordings.
I think that a myspace page is definitely one of the best ways to promote a new band on the web as it can be viewed and listened to by anyone.
The facebook page although it can be useful seems to be much more for fans to comment and also friends of the band. I think having both of these is a really good choice the band made as it broadens their audience and also their recognition amongst new audiences.
They also have a youtube music channel where you can find recent footage and music from the band.
